Adaptil Diffuser and Refill for Dog Anxiety, 48mlAn Adaptil diffuser can help your dog to deal with new or stressful situations. This can be anything from trips to the vets or a new home environment. Dogs exhibit certain behaviour such as barking, whining, toileting inside and shying away from contact.
Whilst a certain amount of apprehension is normal during a stressful environment, extreme anxiety can have a negative effect on your dog. Moving house or a fear of fireworks and thunder can lead to a dog with fearful aggression or anxiety. Adaptil uses a synthetic form of the Dog Appeasing Pheromone, which has a calming affect on dogs.
The Dog Appeasing Pheromone is a scent (undetectable to humans) that mimics the pheromone released by mother dogs.
How to use the pheromone diffuser for cats
- Plug in the diffuser in the room where your dog spends most of their time.
- The pheromone will be diffused through the room.
- Replace the vial with a refill after 4 weeks.

Adaptil diffuser
The Adaptil diffuser really seems to calm my two anxious dogs down.
Unfortunately, for the price the refill does not last very long though.

Positive about this, but it is not magic
I think that people who have dogs who suffer from separation anxiety find the situation so difficult that they look for a magical solution. I know that I do as my dogs need 'dog care' when I leave them to go out at night! So, my response to the Adaptil diffuser was rather demanding. It is not magical, I cannot just leave the dogs and rely on the diffuser to ensure that they settle peacefully whatever the situation. However, on most occasions I can now leave the dogs for 2 to 21/2 hours if I take precautions in preparing to leave them. This means no last minute showers and flusters about what I am going to wear, huge sprays of perfume which alert them etc. I am extra careful if I am going out early in the evening (well before their bed time). All of that being said, I believe that in general the dogs are happier and more relaxed and am certainly going to continue using Adaptil Diffuser.
